starting a topical bible study on "success and prosperity"...maybe...i never really follow through on things and will probably forget all about this by tomorrow, so maybe i should just put it more lightly and say "i looked up success and prosperity in the bible"
actually i didn't even get that far yet. really i just looked up success and prosperity in an online thesaurus. some of the synonyms (for both or either):
abundance, accomplishment, opulence, luxury, victory, wealth, well being, eminnence, consumation, mastery, triumph, come into, conquer, vanquish, obtain, flourish, make it, earn, procure, rack up....
velvet, grand slam, happiness, hit, killing, Easy Street (that one was capitalized), gravy train....
as i read through the different words for success and prosperity, i tried to decipher whether we had invented these words to describe personal gain and wealth, or if we had distorted the original meanings in order to congratulation ourselves on our "achievements" and our "good luck". i also found it interesting the number of words that were associated with prosperity which had to do with an overflow, or more than enough of one thing....like...opulence, exorbidance, inflation, interest, luxury, expansion and affluence....
the antonyms that were given for both were "failure" and "hardship". it seemed to me that the thesaurus was assuming if one was not Afluent, Wealthy, living in Riches, Luxury and Opulence, then they were a failure suffering many hardships.
but there was a group of synonyms...bear fruit, blossom, bloom, burst, flourish, fructify (a good one), thrive, sprout and grow...who's antonyms were "die, shrivel, wane and wither" as if to say when one does not grow and bear fruit all they do is wither and die....
